Interview and inspired by Artist work

<RELECTION>
Zongze Wu

Zongze Wu is a graphic designer and visual artist from China whose artistic practice focuses on revealing contemporary social issues through the lens of collective memory. He often employs various media, such as publications, videos, and art installations, to delve into the blurred realms of memory and explore the societal issues they encompass. By evoking these shared memories, Zongze aims to foster a deep resonance and understanding among audiences regarding the social problems arising from these collective experiences. His ultimate goal is to establish a strong connection that not only brings these issues to light but also encourages reflection and dialogue within the community.

His project, REFLECTION, In the form of a publication, this project critically reflects on the Chinese capitalist control of urbanization by preserving the collective memory of the distinctive blue glass and blue glass architecture of the 1990s in China. It also reveals the “capitalist heritage” of past urbanization efforts, and by discussing the ephemeral nature of capitalist control over urban development and the resulting inequities, it prompts people to think about the significance of capitalist-controlled urban development rising and falling like a black hole.

Under the theme of Chinese Dreamcore, there are actually not many scholars or artists who are actively exploring and creating in this area. The work RELECTION by artist Zongze Wu offered us deeper insights into the narratives hidden behind blue-glass buildings. Through our conversations with him, we gained valuable perspectives that greatly supported our research. We are truly grateful!
